FWFD: House fire, Elmer Avenue

house fire

Fort Wayne, Indiana (March 8, 2021) – This afternoon a Fort Wayne Police Department officer spotted smoke coming from a home and called dispatchers for a house fire in the 500 block of Elmer Avenue.

While requesting the fire department be dispatched, the officer got the occupant and two dogs out of the home. Police officers also checked that the home was unoccupied, due to the fire spreading to that house and two detached garages. Three minutes later, firefighters arrived and began extinguishing the fire, inside and outside of the original home and also the house and garage next door. The fire was under control 24 minutes after arrival.

A deceased cat was found in the home during the overhaul.

Damage to the original home and garage was heavy while damage to the neighboring home and garage was minor.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department was assisted by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, City of Fort Wayne Neighborhood Code Enforcement, Indiana Michigan Power, Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control, and NIPSCO.
