Fort Wayne UNITED Helping Citizens Stay Safe:
Distributing Food, COVID Safety Supplies and Presenting Forums to Allay COVID Vaccine HesitancyFort Wayne, Indiana (March 4, 2021) – Fort Wayne UNITED’s TenPoint Coalition, in partnership with Parkview Health, will distribute Peace of Mind (POM) Packages filled with nonperishable food items and TenPoint Coalition COVID kits, which contain youth and adult masks as well as hand sanitizer, to members of the community who are struggling in these difficult times.
On Saturday, March 13 at 9:00 a.m., those in need are encouraged to utilize this drive-thru service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 3705 S. Anthony Blvd. Please enter from Euclid Ave. Distribution will take place until supplies run out.
Fort Wayne UNITED is also partnering with Parkview Health and the Allen County Health Department to offer two virtual forums to provide information about the safety of COVID-19 vaccines and how to receive a vaccine. The forums will take place on Friday, March 5 and Thursday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. on the Fort Wayne UNITED Facebook page: facebook.com/FortWayneUNITED. Guests will include Health Commissioner Dr. Matthew Sutter, officials from Parkview Health and Joe Jordan, Fort Wayne UNITED co-chair and Boys & Girls Clubs President and CEO.
Several area churches, organizations and individuals have donated items for the POM Packages and have volunteered to pack boxes for the distribution event, including Parkview Health, The Chapel, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pathway Community Church, Headwaters Church, Trinity English Lutheran Church, St. Michael Lutheran Church and Northeast Indiana Neighborhood Engagement.
Fort Wayne UNITED is a Mayoral initiative that places two national efforts, Cities United and My Brother’s Keeper, under one umbrella. It is designed to answer the call to enhance opportunities, advance youth advocacy and help create a safer city for all, but more specifically for black men and boys. By bringing together a group of passionate and committed leaders, the initiative will educate, inform and engage the community in an effort to make positive change one neighborhood at a time.
Fort Wayne UNITED’s vision is for every black male in Fort Wayne to be respected and valued with an opportunity to reach their full potential. The mission is to advocate for and implement policies, practices and procedures to ensure equity and opportunity for black fathers, brothers and sons at home, work, school, and the community through collaborative efforts.
