Fort Wayne Public Works news release:

Hobson Road Transportation Improvements Coming Soon
Center Lane Restrictions Begin Tuesday

(July 1, 2020) – Pavement reconstruction on Hobson Road between Stellhorn Road and Coliseum Boulevard will close the center lanes in each direction, beginning Tuesday, July 7, 2020.

As alternate routes in the area have been expanded over the years, motor vehicle traffic on this stretch of Hobson has decreased by more than 25 percent in 20 years. In 1998, 15,900 vehicles were using the road between Stellhorn and Coliseum each day. By 2018 that number was 11,850.

Due to an increase in pedestrian transportation and the decrease in vehicular traffic on this stretch of road, new sidewalks will be installed on both sides where none exists today. To make room for the sidewalks the roadway will be reduced from 4 lanes to 3 lanes, with the center lane designated for vehicles that are turning.

Construction includes stormwater improvements with a bioswale and new stormwater pipe and drains, curbs and ADA ramps, traffic signal improvements, landscaping, and tree enhancements. The project is scheduled for substantial completion in late November with final restoration, including landscaping by July of 2021.
