News release from Allen County Parks:

Allen County Parks Nature Centers to closed until further notice due to COVID19

(March 20, 2020) – Jeff Baxter, Superintendent of Parks for Allen County announced today that Nature Centers at Fox Island and Metea County Parks will close to the public starting today due to the COVID19 virus. Restrooms will be made available in both buildings and signs will be posted so visitors to the park may still access them. A schedule to re-open the buildings will be announced at a later date. The health of the public and our employees is our highest priority at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation.

The parks are still open for your enjoyment until such time as further mandates or directives are issued.

“A meeting of the Allen County Park and Recreation Board was conducted on March 19, 2020 as permitted by Governor Holcomb’s Executive Order (20-04 dated March 16, 2020). At this meeting the Board approved this and other temporary changes to the county parks operations.”

Changes include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • All scheduled programs are cancelled through May 1, 2020
  • All rentals are cancelled through April 1, 2020 and this date may be extended at the direction of the Superintendent of Parks. Park representatives will be contacting scheduled rentals with more information.
