Gant’s career night helps Fort Wayne rally against Capital City

Washington, D.C. (January 3, 2020) – The Fort Wayne Mad Ants overcame a 19-point deficit to defeat the Capital City Go-Go, 128-126, at the Entertainment and Sports Arena on Friday night. Fort Wayne (9-11) has now won seven of the last nine games heading into tomorrow night’s back-to-back finale at Canton.

Fort Wayne trailed 37-18 with 1:56 remaining in the first quarter after a Jalen Jones free throw. The Mad Ants would cut the deficit to nine during the second quarter, but went into the halftime break trailing 63-52.

After failing to regain momentum in the third quarter, Fort Wayne found all the rhythm needed to complete the comeback in the fourth quarter. The Mad Ants shot 12-of-17 from the floor and 11-of-13 from the charity stripe in the highest-scoring quarter of the season as a team, outscoring Capital City 42-29 in the final frame.

Walt Lemon, Jr. and C.J. Wilcox combined to go 10-of-11 from the free throw line and scored 11 points each in the fourth quarter.

Lemon ended the night with 28 points and Wilcox capped his night with 15 points.

JaKeenan Gant poured in a career-high 27 points in his first starting nod of his career as well. Gant finished 11-of-19 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds in 29 minutes of action.

Ben Moore chipped in another double-double highlighted by 15 points and 12 rebounds. Tre Kelley, who was waived by Capital City on Nov. 5, added eight points off the bench from Fort Wayne.

Stephan Hicks led all bench scorers with 12 points.

For Capital City (9-10), Mike Cobbins led all scorers with 29 points as four from the Go-Go ended the night with at least 20 points.
