Hobnobben Film Festival events begin Thursday, June 7, 2018

Fort Wayne, Indiana (May 31, 2018) – Cinema Center presents its third annual Hobnobben Film Festival, from June 7-10, 2018, in downtown Fort Wayne. The festival celebrates the art of filmmaking and features a variety of international, national, regional and locally produced films that were submitted for review and judged by film industry experts. Film offerings include features, documentaries and short films, including children’s shorts. Several panel discussions will be offered throughout the four days as well.

The festival begins with its Opening Night Reception and Film on Thursday, June 7 from 5:30-9:00 p.m. at Artlink and the PPG ArtsLab. The reception is open to passholders only and takes place at Artlink. It is immediately followed by the public screening the opening night film, Hearts Beat Loud starring Nick Offerman, in the Black Box Theater in the PPG ArtsLab at 7:00 p.m. Both Artlink and ArtsLab are located in the Auer Center at 300 E. Main St. $10 tickets can be purchased for the opening night film at www.hobnobben.org.

Blocknobben, the festival’s free community block party, features local breweries, food vendors, live music (Calder The Band, Rosalind & The Way, and Horizon Arcs), short films, and the Blocknobben marketplace of local hand-picked vendors. The event is Friday, June 8 from 6:00-10:00 p.m. in the Arts United Plaza, 303 E. Main St. It is FREE and open to the public.

Films for the festival will be shown in a variety of venues, including Cinema Center, 437 E. Berry St., the newly renovated Spectator Lounge (attached to Cinema Center), and the PPG ArtsLab. A complete list of films, schedules, a program guide, and tickets are available at www.hobnobben.org.

A highlight of the festival, a Burmese film entitled Mudras Calling, is scheduled to screen twice to accommodate local demand, according to Hobnobben organizers. The festival will also feature an Awards Reception and Ceremony on Saturday, June 9 at Cinema Center starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Cinema Center Spectator Lounge. The event is free for passholders, $10 at the door. Awards will be given in five categories: Best Documentary, Best Narrative Feature, Best Short, Hoosier Spirit and Student Showcase. At 8:30 p.m. there will be an Official After Party, held at Summit City Brewerks, 1501 East Berry St. It is FREE and open to the public.

The festival closes on Sunday with a series of Eye-Opening Films (movies shown at other major film festivals), as well as re-screenings of the Hobnobben award winners.

“We are excited to have films created here in Indiana share the screen with films from around the globe,” said Margaret Reeder, Cinema Center Executive Director. She also noted the strong presence of female filmmakers at Hobnobben. “This year, we’re inspired by the stories we share onscreen and the artists who make them – especially for the representation of female creators – 17 directors and producers!”

Tickets are available for purchase at www.hobnobben.org, www.cinemacenter.org and at the Cinema Center box office, located at 437 E. Berry. Festival guides can be picked up there as well, and at various businesses around town.

Major sponsors of the Hobnobben Film Festival include The Trove and The Find, Sweetwater, Old National Bank, and Amplify Art! (a crowdfunding program of Arts United).
