Game notes for tonight’s Opening Day with the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Parkvie Field:

Tonight, the TinCaps face the Bowling Green Hot Rods for the third game of their four games series, which incidentally kicked off the 2017 season for both teams and tonight, opens Parkview Field for the season as well.

Last night, the TinCaps fell to the Hot Rods in Bowling Green by a score of 6-4. The night before, the TinCaps took the Hot Rods, 4-1. Right fielder Jorge Oña had a first-inning RBI single. This was followed by designated hitter Brad Zunica’s fourth-inning 2-run homer. G.K. Young also contributed a RBI triple in the eighth inning. This leaves the TinCaps at 1-1 for the still early season. Despite these efforts in the 3 hours 25-minute game, the TinCaps still fell short.

Tonight’s game marks the 9th season for the TinCaps at Parkview Field. The first season-opening nine years ago, on April 9, 2009. Since starting at Parkview Field, the TinCaps are 5-3 in home openers, which includes a 9-5 win over the Lake County Captains on April 7th of last year.

This is also the franchise’s 25th season overall, having also changed their name from the Wizards to the TinCaps, also nine years ago. A huge contrast in temperatures also as last year’s temperature at the opening pitch was 36° F with a snow cover on the field in the morning. Tonight’s temperature should be around 62° F.
