Lutheran Cancer Center invites national expert to discuss latest developments in the breast cancer care
Free Oct. 13 presentation open to the general public

(September 28, 2016) – As part of its continued effort to arm northeastern Indiana with advanced information and treatments for the fight against cancer, the Lutheran Cancer Center will host a national expert in the field of breast cancer care on Thursday, Oct. 13.

Keynote speaker Sara Hurvitz, MD, the medical director of clinical research and the director of breast oncology at the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, will headline a panel of specialists presenting at a free public forum called “New Directions in Breast Cancer Care.” The event will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Kachmann Auditorium on the lower level of Medical Office Building Two, 7910 W. Jefferson Blvd., on the Lutheran Hospital campus. Snacks, desserts and refreshments will be provided in the south lobby of Lutheran Hospital between 5:15 and 6:30 p.m. Free parking is available in the adjacent south garage. Attendees are asked to register online at www.LutheranHealth.net by Thursday, Oct. 6.

The title of Dr. Hurvitz’s presentation is “From Bench to Bedside: The Breakthrough Therapy that Almost Wasn’t.” It will be followed by 30 minutes of Q&A with the audience. Other presenters include:

    “Current Controversies in Breast Cancer Screening”
  • Rachael Hayes, MD, Lutheran Medical Group
    “Innovations in Breast Cancer Surgery”
  • Mark Ranck, MD, Radiation Oncology Associates
    “Technological Advances in Radiotherapy Delivery: Maintaining Effectiveness While Reducing Risks”

The event is sponsored by Lutheran Cancer Center and Fort Wayne Medical Education Program. Presentation objectives include introducing participants to best practices for breast health; sharing development strategies for efficient diagnosis and treatment planning; and demonstrating the benefit of an effective multidisciplinary approach for personalized care.
