By Mike Monaco

LANSING, Mich. (August 9, 2016) — The Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) pulled out a 4-3 walk-off win over the TinCaps in 13 innings on Tuesday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.

In their third game of at least 13 innings in the past 11 days, the TinCaps (18-27 second half, 54-61 overall) fell to the Lugnuts (23-22, 59-56), as Lansing third baseman Carl Wise smacked a walk-off single with the bases loaded to complete the sweep in the four-game set.

The Lugnuts had struck first with a trio of runs, including one unearned tally, in the bottom of the second inning, and Lugnuts starter Angel Perdomo kept the TinCaps quiet over six shutout innings in which he fanned five.

Fort Wayne finally jumped on the board in the top of the eighth when third baseman Carlos Belen tagged an opposite-field home run to right off of Lugnuts reliever Tom Robson to trim the deficit to 3-1.

In the ninth, TinCaps catcher Marcus Greene Jr. doubled to left field to begin the frame. Two batters later, he came in on an error by Wise, who misplayed a ball hit by TinCaps right fielder Jhonatan Peña. With the TinCaps down 3-2, center fielder Rod Boykin delivered a game-tying RBI single to center that scored left fielder Jose Carlos Ureña.

TinCaps relievers José Castillo and David Bednar combined for nine strikeouts over six shutout stanzas after southpaw starter Thomas Dorminy allowed two earned runs in five frames. Right-hander Lou Distasio worked a scoreless 12th, and fellow righty Corey Kimber (L, 2-2) allowed the game-winning run in the 13th.

Lansing reliever Tayler Saucedo (W, 8-9) tossed a shutout top of the 13th.

TinCaps designated hitter Austin Allen, who began the day with a 22-game hitting streak (one shy of Sean Burroughs’ franchise record 23-game streak), was hit by a pitch in the first inning and left the game. According to Rule 9.23, his streak is not terminated.
