Kroger and Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo Announce Results of Zoo Day 2016

  • All 15 stores in region continued a 24-year tradition with fun events in stores; total support since 1993 totals $1,746,723
  • Zoo Day theme changed this year to focus on “sticking up for the animals”

(June 10, 2016) – The Kroger Co.’s Central Division and Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo officials announced results of “Kroger Zoo Day 2016” at a news conference today at 1:00 PM at the zoo.

Kroger stores in Northeastern Indiana celebrated “Zoo Day” on Wednesday, May 11th. Kroger is donating 3% of sales on May 11th to the zoo, totaling $50,000. This year 15 Kroger stores in the region participated.

Kroger customers were given the opportunity to contribute to the zoo in scan increments of $1, $3 and $5 between Sunday, May 1st and Saturday, May 21st, although there was no limit to the amount Kroger associates and customers could donate. In exchange for a $1 donation, customers received one of three different zoo animal themed, collectible sticker sheets. This year, associate and customer donations totaled $18,275.

Kroger funded an advertising blitz in the month of May worth at least $65,000 on behalf of the zoo. This advertising campaign eliminates a substantial cost the zoo might otherwise have to make as they promoted the 2016 season. The ad campaign showcases the creative talent of Fort Wayne-based Ferguson Advertising.

Since the event began in 1993, cumulative “Zoo Day” support from Scott’s and Kroger banner stores totals $1,746,723.

Zoo director Jim Anderson said, “Not only does this event demonstrate wonderful corporate support from Kroger; it also gives the general public an easy way to show their support for our zoo.”

Kroger Quote:
According to Kroger president Katie Wolfram, “The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is a wonderful cultural anchor for Northeast Indiana. I can’t think of a more important visitor attraction for our company to support than one that brings so much pleasure and enjoyment to our associates, customers and their families. Kroger is very proud to carry on this long-term partnership for a 24th year. We want to thank our customers and associates in northeast Indiana for their continued support of the zoo. Their efforts are preserving and enhancing one of Fort Wayne’s local treasures.”
