Parkview Field Voted Best Class A Ballpark
TinCaps’ Home Wins Ballpark Digest’s Best of the Ballparks Competition

(June 6, 2016) — Parkview Field has been voted the best Class A ballpark in the country, Ballpark Digest announced Monday.

The TinCaps edged McCormick Field, the home of the Asheville Tourists, the South Atlantic League affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, in Ballpark Digest’s Best of the Ballparks bracket-style competition for the top venue at the Class A level.

“We’re extremely appreciative of everyone who took the time to support Parkview Field in this competition,” TinCaps President Mike Nutter said. “We’re proud to see our ballpark honored by a national source like Ballpark Digest which does such a great job covering the sport of baseball. It’s nice to know that Parkview Field is highly thought of not only around Fort Wayne, but all over.”

Parkview Field earned the No. 2 seed in the 30-ballpark competition and topped No. 15 Whitaker Bank Ballpark (Lexington Legends, South Atlantic League, Kansas City Royals), Four Winds Field (South Bend Cubs, Midwest League, Chicago Cubs), and Spirit Communications Park (Columbia Fireflies, South Atlantic League, New York Mets) before the finals.

The winner in each round was determined by an online vote. Ballpark Digest says according to its marketing/user research, a third of voters work in the baseball industry, a third sell to the baseball industry, and the final third is made up of fans and media.

Through Sunday, the TinCaps have averaged 5,534 fans at Parkview Field per game in 2016 — a number that should only rise with the end of the school year and warmer weather. Fort Wayne’s average attendance is currently better than 28 Double-A teams and 14 Triple-A franchises, and ranks second among Single-A teams behind just Dayton. (The TinCaps averaged a record 5,971 fans per game last year.)

The TinCaps are on the road this week, but return to Parkview Field for a seven-game homestand from June 13-19 to wrap up the first half of the season.
