TinCaps Fall Behind Early, Whitecaps Win, 7-1
Despite Loss, Michael Gettys Continues Hot Hitting

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (May 14, 2016) – The TinCaps lost to the West Michigan Whitecaps, 7-1, on Saturday night at Fifth Third Ballpark.

Will Maddox’s RBI groundout and Will Allen’s RBI single provided West Michigan (17-16) a 2-0 edge in the bottom of the first inning, and the Whitecaps didn’t look back.

West Michigan added one run during each of the third and fourth innings on RBI doubles from Will Allen and Rashad Brown, respectively. In the sixth, Cam Gibson hit an RBI two-bagger, followed by an RBI single from Brown.

Arcivent Perez’s RBI single during the seventh frame concluded the Whitecaps’ scoring.

Fort Wayne (19-17) managed its lone run in the second inning.

Michael Gettys singled, stole second and advanced to third base on Perez’s throwing error. Brad Zunica brought Gettys home with a sacrifice fly. Gettys smacked a pair of singles, improving to 6-for-11 at the plate for the series.

TinCaps second baseman Peter Van Gansen registered his third three-hit game of the season, tallying a double and two singles.

Angel Mejia (L, 0-1) tossed three innings during his TinCaps debut. He allowed three runs on five hits.

Whitecaps starter Trent Szkutnik (W, 1-0) pitched five innings and surrendered the one unearned run. Toller Boardman (S, 1) yielded three hits during four scoreless frames.

Fort Wayne will attempt to salvage a series split on Sunday afternoon.
