Game recap from the TinCaps:

TinCaps 14, South Bend 1

(April 16, 2016) – For the first time in Parkview Field’s eight-year history, the TinCaps have started the season 5-0 at home. Fort Wayne is not only unblemished at home, but now 7-3 overall after a dominating, 14-1, win over the South Bend Cubs in front of 6,010 fans on Saturday.

In their five games at Parkview Field this season, the TinCaps have battered their opponents by a combined score of 57-15, or by an average score of 11.4-3.0.

On this gorgeous, 70-degree evening — with the sun shining and not a cloud in the blue sky — Fort Wayne pounced early with a run in the first inning and three in the second. Shortstop Ruddy Giron hit a two-out, two-run triple down the left-field off South Bend starter Kyle Twomey (L, 0-1) that made it 4-0.

The TinCaps turned it into a laugher with a five-run fifth inning and five more in the seventh. All nine Fort Wayne starters reached base at least once, while seven drove in at least one run.

After collecting six hits and seven RBIs in the first two games of this series, right fielder Luis Tejada stayed hot, going 3-for-3, including an RBI-double, plus two walks. With 12 RBIs on the season, he leads the Midwest League.

Meanwhile, catcher Austin Allen added to his Minor League Baseball-best hit total with two more, including an RBI-double as well. A 2-for-4 night actually lowered his batting average to .636.

Not to be lost amid the absurd offensive numbers of late, the TinCaps were sharp again on the mound, too. Starter Enyel De Los Santos threw four scoreless innings, while reliever Nick Monroe (W, 1-0) kept the Cubs off the board over the next three.

South Bend (4-5) scored its lone run in the ninth.

Fort Wayne has won four in a row overall.
