36th National Print Exhibition, Small Art Show/Sale, and Watercolors by Don Osos to Exhibit at Artlink

(March 29, 2016) – Artlink will host an opening reception for its next set of exhibitions: 36th National Print Exhibition, Small Art Show/Sale, and Watercolors by Don Osos. The opening reception for this set of exhibition is Friday, April 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. All exhibitions run through May 25, 2016.

The 36th National Print Show features hand-pulled prints by the nation’s finest printmakers. This year’s exhibition features may veteran printmakers, as as well new artists for gallery guests to enjoy. Forty-six artists from 15 states will be exhibiting 62 original, hand-pulled prints. Ten Indiana artists are included in the exhibition. Representing Fort Wayne are Andrew Dubach, Chris Ganz, Sayaka Ganz, Derek Hibbs, and Elena Smyrniotis. A call for artwork went out to every university in the U.S. that has a print department.

This year’s juror and award selector is Kim Vito. Kim Vito is Professor of Art and co-head of the printmaking area at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, where she has been teaching since 1992. Vito is also an active and supportive member of the Dayton Printmaker’s Cooperative. Previously, she taught printmaking and drawing at The University of Central Florida and Indiana University/Purdue University, Fort Wayne, Indiana. In addition to exhibiting her own work, Vito curates exhibitions for the Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries at Wright State. In 2012, she co-curated “Global Matrix III: An International Print Exhibition” along with Craig Martin, Director of Purdue University Galleries. Her work is included in numerous public and corporate collections. She received her BFA in 1986 from Miami University and her MFA in 1988 from Florida State University.

Thanks to the generosity of Lincoln Financial Foundation, which has been the print show’s exclusive sponsor for the past 20 years, Vito will distribute $2,500 in cash awards. The award winners will be announced at the opening reception on April 22. Purchase awards will be selected by the University of Saint Francis and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.

The Small Art Show/Sale will be displayed in the Feature Gallery. This is a juried exhibit showcasing works that are small in size but big in impact. All pieces are within 12 x 12 x 12 inches. Over 200 artists submitted for this show and 50 were accepted. Representing Fort Wayne are Sara Auman Smith, Kaaren Biglands, Dianna Chadd, Caitlin Crowley, Paul Demaree, Andrew Dubach, Nancy Fritz, Karen Harvey, Debra Kern, Lisa Ransom Smith, Thomas Trick, and Lizabeth Yager.

This show was juried by Kevin Buist, Exhibitions Director for ArtPrize. Kevin is an artist, writer, curator, and critic of art and film. In his role with ArtPrize, he oversees artists, curators, jurors, and guest speakers. He has exhibited artwork in solo and group exhibitions in New York City and Grand Rapids, and his writing has been featured in numerous print and online publications, including Art: 21 Blog, where he was a Blogger in Residence, as well as MNartists.org, Solace Magazine, and kevinbuist.com. All artwork in this show is for sale.

In addition to the 36th National Print Exhibition and the Small Art Show/Sale, Watercolors by Don Osos, Artlink Artist Member, will be featured in the Betty Fishman Gallery.

Artlink’s gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. The Auer Center for Arts & Culture surface parking lot is east of the building. Parking meters are free after hours and on weekends.
