Ivy Tech Northeast to offer student assistance program
(February 29, 2016) – Ivy Tech Community College Northeast is now offering a student assistance program through a partnership with the Bowen Center, a Warsaw-based non-profit mental health care services provider.
Though this program, the Center will provide counselors on-campus two days a week. Students wanting to meet will have a free information session on campus, and the counselors will refer students to a specialist. This is to assure that as many students as possible can receive services, says Chris Cathcart, the College’s vice chancellor for Student Affairs. The Center has locations across Ivy Tech Northeast’s region, including Fort Wayne, Albion, Auburn and Columbia City.
One of the reasons the College chose to work with the Center is because of the breadth of services it offers: The Bowen Center will also put on seminars addressing topics like substance abuse, stress management, and sexual awareness programs.
“This is a part of our efforts as a college to provide holistic support for the needs of our students, allowing them to better succeed academically,” Cathcart says.
The Bowen Center will operate at Ivy Tech Northeast from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and 3 to 5 p.m. Thursdays in Room HM1532 in Harshman Hall on North Campus (3701 Dean Drive). Students who need assistance outside those hours can walk in to any Bowen Center facility or call the 24-hour hotline at 1-800-342-5652 and say they’re an Ivy Tech student to receive free help.
