New Initiative Invites Regional Businesses to Connect with IPFW Resources
(February 22, 2016) — IPFW is unveiling the new Campus to Community Connection (C2C) initiative, aimed at further promoting collaborations between regional businesses and IPFW faculty and students. The C2C initiative is designed to increase awareness of available resources and connect students with local and regional employers.
“With this initiative, IPFW has enhanced its outreach to the regional business community to promote collaboration and ultimately economic growth,” said Sean Ryan, director, Office of Engagement. “IPFW is in a unique position to support the growth of high-skill and high-wage jobs in northeast Indiana, while, at the same time, better connect our students to the employment opportunities that are created as a result.”
A coordinated effort to align and create a single image for the “outward-facing” departments of IPFW, the Campus to Community Connection program aims to connect leaders in business, industry, government, and nonprofit organizations with professional development, faculty, students, and corporate services available through IPFW.
In addition to giving local business access to resources located at IPFW, C2C will be able to connect them with the IU-Bloomington and Purdue West Lafayette campuses as well. A recent survey sent to more than 100 area businesses by the Center for Social Research revealed that greater opportunities exist for many businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations to take advantage of engagement opportunities with IPFW. Opportunities include facility use agreements (e.g. lab use), grant partnerships, and sponsored research, beyond the traditional hiring and training engagements that are more well known.
Funded by the Lilly Endowment through an award made to Purdue University, C2C has been in the works for approximately 18 months by a campus team consisting of the Office of Engagement, Career Services, the Community Research Institute, Cooperative Education, Continuing Studies, and other units.
