News release from the Artlink Contemporary Art Gallery:
Second Chances Art Exhibit & Auction opens at Artlink
Second Chances Art Exhibit & Auction (in collaboration with Blue Jacket), FAME Fusion of Concert Colors, and Artwork by Catherine Blyth to Exhibit at Artlink(February 10, 2016) – Artlink will host an opening reception for its next set of exhibitions: Second Chances Art Exhibit & Auction (in collaboration with Blue Jacket), FAME Fusion of Concert Colors, and Artwork by Catherine Blyth. The opening reception for this set of exhibition is Friday, March 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. All exhibitions run through April 13, 2016.
In Artlink’s main gallery, Second Chances Art Exhibit & Auction will display the result of a collaboration between Artlink and Blue Jacket. Community artists were paired with Blue Jacket graduates to create artwork to tell the graduates’ stories of triumph. Several art pieces will be included in a live auction at the opening reception. The remaining pieces will be part of a silent auction for the duration of the exhibit, which will be on display until April 13. Proceeds from the event will benefit Blue Jacket’s programming. The event will feature musical entertainment by Jon Durnell and food and a cash bar provided by Calhoun Street Soup, Salad & Spirits.
Blue Jacket was created in 2003 to address critical and unmet needs for people wanting to earn their second chance and a refresher on their career. Its mission is to provide education, training, and opportunities to any disadvantaged person who is striving to earn a second chance at gainful employment.
Fusion of Concert Colors with F.A.M.E. will be displayed in the Freistoffer Gallery. FAME Fusion is an interdisciplinary project where students learn about music and the composer, then paint, draw or sketch what the music inspires them to see. Music and art specialists guide students through the FAME Fusion program to better promote an understanding of the arts by encouraging students to draw connections between musical selections and the visual arts. This year’s inspiration is a medley of music by Indiana’s Cole Porter and Hoagy Carmichael to celebrate Indiana’s Bicentennial.
In addition to Second Chances and Fusion of Concert Colors, Artwork by Catherine Blyth, Artlink Artist Member, will be featured in the Betty Fishman Gallery.
