News release from the Fort Wayne Police Department:

Barricaded Suspect

Date: Tuesday, February 2, 2016

Time: 5:30 a.m.

Location: 1300 block of High Street

Suspect: Jason Charles Beam M/23

Charge: Felony Intimidation

Details:

Fort Wayne police responded to a domestic disturbance which involved two brothers in a residence located at 1316 High Street at 5:30 a.m. this morning. Once on scene it was learned that the suspect, Jason Beam had somehow entered his brother’s home early in the morning and fell asleep on a Livingroom couch. Beam had been banned from the home by his brother because of a recent disturbance between the two.

Officers made several attempts to get Beam to exit the home but he barricaded himself and refused to exit. Fort Wayne police specialty teams, EST and CRT, were called to the scene to handle the incident. Once in place several attempts were made to get Beam to exit but all attempts failed resulting in the EST Team deploying gas into the home which had an immediate and favorable result as Beam exited the home and surrendered to officers without incident.

During the standoff High Street was shut down to vehicle and pedestrian traffic between St Mary’s and Osage Streets until approximately 9:00 a.m.
