Mad Ants come from behind to get big win at home

(January 30, 2016) – The Mad Ants, sponsored by Lutheran Health Network, came out on top against the Maine Red Claws 116-111 Saturday, January 30th at Allen Co. War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.

After spending time back down with the Indiana Pacers, Shayne Whittington was reassigned back to the Mad Ants Friday to play in their second straight home game Saturday night. The first quarter opened in a tight contest with the visiting Red Claws, but Whittington made an immediate statement in his return helping the Mad Ants keep Maine within reach. Fort Wayne came out with a strong first half performance, with help from Whittington’s 13 first half points, but found themselves down 64-58 at the half. CJ Fair showed his dominance on the defensive side of the ball, following Whittington with 11 first half points and 9 rebounds.

All, but eleven seconds of the third quarter belong to the Red Claws, until the Mad Ants took control of the lead and carried that advantage until the end of the game. Maine was able to pull within three with two seconds left in regulation to make the finish exciting, but would fall 116-111 in the end. Fair led all scorers with 27 points, adding 14 rounds to complete the double-double. Whittington also registered a double-double good for 26 points of his own and 13 rebounds. Anthony Harris rounded out the Mad Ants victory with 14 points.

For the Red Claws, Coty Clarke led with a double-double good for 23 points and 10 rebounds. Andre Stringer followed Clarke with 19 points of his own.

The Mad Ants rise to 13-13 on the season, while Maine falls to 14-13
