News release from the Indiana State Police:

First Snow of the New Year Keeps Fort Wayne Troopers Busy

(January 4, 2016) – Troopers from the Indiana State Police post in Fort Wayne were extremely busy this morning working crashes and slide offs in the wake of the first accumulated snow fall of the new year.

Between 7:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon, Troopers responded to and investigated a total of 27 property damage crashes, 11 crashes involving injury and 16 slide offs. None of the injuries sustained were life threatening. The majority of the crashes and slide offs occurred on I-69 between the 302 to the 329 mile markers (Fort Wayne to Auburn) and were attributed in large part to unsafe speed.

Lieutenant Tony Casto, Fort Wayne District Commander reminds motorists that “the weather does not cause crashes…driving behavior does and that we all need to adjust that behavior according to road and weather conditions”.
