News release from the Fort Wayne Police Department:
Bank Robbery at Wells Fargo
Date: 12/31/2015
Time: 1:26 p.m.
Location: 900 block of West State Boulevard
Victim: Wells Fargo
Details:
On December 31st, 2015 at approximately 1:26 pm Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the report of an armed robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank on the 900 block of W. State Blvd. While Police were en route to the report of an armed robbery Fort Wayne Dispatch advised that the suspect was a male white, 5’11, with a beard. This initial description matched the suspect description from the bank robbery December 30th, 2015 at Fifith Third at Rothman and Maplecrest.
The suspect fled the scene prior to Police arrival heading west bound from the bank. Bank employees were unable to tell if the suspect fled on foot or in vehicle. Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect most likely fled on foot a short distance to a parked vehicle then made his escape.
Further investigation indicated that the suspect was described as being a male white, 5’11 to 6’0, with a go-tee, wearing a brown hoodie, glasses, blue jeans, with brown hair, weighing about 250 pounds, between the ages of 25-40 years old. The bank’s video surveillance was able to produce a still image of the suspect. The suspect was not the same suspect from the previous robbery at Fifth Third. However, the modus operandi was similar.
The suspect did not speak to the bank teller, but passed a note demanding money. The suspect was given an undiclosed amount of money. The bank employees reported not seeing a weapon on the suspect. The FBI, Fort Wayne Safe Streets Task Force and Crime Scene made the scene and took over the investigation.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, FBI Fort Wayne Safe Streets Task Force, and the Allen County Prosecturs Office.
