Allen County to Help Kickoff Indiana Bicentennial Celebration
Dec. 11 event includes flag raising at Courthouse

(December 2, 2015) — Allen County citizens are invited to an event that’s been 200 years in the making.

The Allen County Board of Commissioners and other local officials will help kickoff Indiana’s year-long bicentennial celebration with a special ceremony on December 11 at noon at the Allen County Courthouse Plaza.

The event will include the raising of the official bicentennial flag atop the Courthouse and a proclamation from the Allen County Board of Commissioners designating December 11 as Indiana Statehood Day and the official start of bicentennial activities in the county.

Among those scheduled to speak during the event are County Commissioners Nelson Peters, Therese Brown and Linda Bloom; Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry; Curt Witcher, Allen County Bicentennial Coordinator; and State House Majority Leader Matt Lehman.

Following the ceremony, citizens will be invited to visit the main branch of the Allen County Public Library from 12:30 to 6:00 p.m. to see and hear about events going on in Allen County during the next year to commemorate Indiana’s 200th birthday.
