Critical Injury Motor Vehicle Accident

Fort Wayne police responded to the intersection of Stellhorn Road and Woodway Drive at 6:37 a.m. this morning on the reported motor vehicle accident with injury. Once on scene officers found two vehicles involved, one being an IPFW unmarked police vehicle and the second a Dodge passenger car.
The driver of the dodge passenger car was pinned in his vehicle for approximately twenty minutes before Fort Wayne firefighters could free him from his vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital where he was determined to be in critical condition. The IPFW officer was transported from the scene and said to be in serious but stable condition at a local hospital. Neither vehicle contained any passengers.
Officers investigating the accident have preliminarily determined that the driver of the Dodge passenger car pulled into the path of the IPFW officer’s vehicle. The officer was traveling west on Stellhorn Road and the passenger vehicle south on Woodway Drive. Stellhorn Road was shut down for approximately two hours before investigators were able to clear one lane for westbound traffic and one lane for eastbound traffic.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, IPFW Campus Police, Allen County Coroner’s office and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
