Tech Holds Off Chippewas in Great Lakes Showcase

DEARBORN, Mich. (November 28, 2015) – The Indiana Tech ACHA Division 1 men’s ice hockey team fought its way to a tough 4-2 win over Division 3 Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon at the Great Lakes Showcase, hosted by Michigan-Dearborn at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

The Warriors got out to a 2-0 lead in the first six minutes of the opening period thanks to goals from Joe Molfetta and Jace Childs, but the Chippewas would come storming back with two goals of their own. Child’s goal was his team-leading 15th of the year.

Dylan Grant would get the game-winner at 17:30 in the second and Molfetta would add his second goal of the night just 25 seconds later to give the Orange and Black a two-goal lead again.

Chet Tooker made 32 saves in goal to pick up the win while the Warriors fired off 39 shots on goal. Tech picked up 26 penalty minutes.

“We didn’t play particularly well tonight, but we found a way to win” said head coach Frank DiCristofaro. “But we found a way to win.”

Tech (11-7-0-1-0) will play in the Great Lakes Showcase Championships on Sunday afternoon against a to-be-determined opponent. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m. from the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
