Balanced attack leads Warriors past Wilberforce Bulldogs

(November 28, 2015) – The Indiana Tech women’s basketball team shook off the rust from Thanksgiving and used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Wilberforce, 72-42, on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center.

Senior Taylor Carver led all scorers with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and grabbed four rebounds. Junior Taylor Seiss added 13 points and four rebounds and Baylee Rinehart chipped in 11 points and a pair of assists. Freshman Kendall Knapke pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds while adding four points, two blocks and a pair of steals.

Six Warriors scored seven points or more and Tech shot over 40 percent from the field for the game, including 43.9 percent in the second half.

Both sides struggled to find their rhythm in the opening period as the Bulldogs got off to a 10-9 lead, but the Orange and Black would respond in the second quarter with an 11-2 run over the last 4:44 to head into the locker room with a 28-24 lead.

A Wilberforce layup brought the visitors within two in the first half-minute but the hosts would explode on a 13-0 run thanks to an and-one play from Carver and back-to-back fast break baskets from Rinehart and Rayana Villalpando. A 16-8 run from the Warriors would give Tech a 57-33 lead heading into the final 10 minutes and the hosts would cruise to the victory.

Tech (5-3) returns to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action on Wednesday when they host Lourdes to close out the homestand. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. from the Schaefer Center and will be part of a doubleheader with the men’s team. Links to live stats and video will be available at IndianaTechWarriors.com.
