Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne to announce “Smart Girl of the Year”

(November 2, 2015) – Terra Brantley is “Brilliant Woman” and keynote speaker at the annual luncheon Fort Wayne, IN, November 2, 2015 – The Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne will announce the “Smart Girl of the Year” during the annual Smart Girls Brilliant Women Luncheon this Thursday, November 5 from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm, at the Fairfield Boys and Girls Club (2609 Fairfield Avenue).

The “Brilliant Woman” and keynote speaker of this fundraiser will feature Terra Brantley, news anchor at WANE-TV. Terra will share personal experiences about her fight against domestic violence and will raise awareness – and hope – among guests and girls from the Boys and Girls Clubs.

The 2015 Smart Girl of the Year will be announced during the luncheon. This honor will be awarded to a young Boys and Girls Club member who has demonstrated excellence in the areas of leadership and character, and is a positive role model to her Club peers.

The Smart Girl of the Year finalists are:

  • A’Brea Clements, Fairfield Boys and Girls Club, a 9th grader at Northrop High School
  • Rhonda Davis, Brookmill Boys and Girls Club, an 11th grader at Wayne High School
  • Jimya Kendrick, Timothy L. Johnson Boys and Girls Club, a 6th grader at Timothy L. Johnson Academy
  • Cecilia Moran, Fellowship Boys and Girls Clubs, an 8th grader at Towles New Tech

The Smart Girls program, conducted throughout the year at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, is designed to help girls develop a positive self-concept and sound decision-making skills, while adopting healthy attitudes and lifestyles. Girls from 6-18 meet in age appropriate groups to address health and social issues unique to them in a safe, supportive environment. The build the necessary skills to resist negative influences and to grow into productive, caring and responsible young women.

“We are happy to be celebrating the Smart Girl finalists who have demonstrated leadership and excellence in the Club and at school,” commented Joe Jordan, CEO and President of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, “We are equally excited about honoring Terra Brantley, who has been a positive influence in the community for a number of years. She exemplifies womanhood and is an important, inspirational role model for our young Club girls.”

The Smart Girls Brilliant Women Luncheon takes place at the Fairfield Boys and Girls Club, 2609 Fairfield Avenue on Thursday, November 5, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Doors open at 11 am. Limited seating is still available by calling (260) 744-0998, extension 112.
