Cambium Networks And Frontier Communications Deploy Wireless Network For One-Night Pop-Up Concert On Rural Farm
Broadband leader partners with service provider to connect emergency Mobile Command Center for rural country music show for 20,000 attendees

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (October 26, 2015) /PRNewswire/ – Cambium Networksâ„¢, a leading global provider of wireless broadband solutions, today announced that it supported Frontier Communications in quickly connecting a Mobile Command Center for emergency services at a rural music concert. The wireless network reliably connected video, audio and data for local police and medical services and vehicles aiding the roughly 20,000 attendees who flocked to a farm in New Haven, Indiana for the one-night-only country music event.

“At first, we were asked to install a custom T1 or bonded copper connection – but we weren’t sure if that would be possible on short notice in such a hard-to-reach place,” said Dan Sullivan, Area General Manager of Indiana for Frontier Communications. “We called Cambium Networks, and collaborated to deploy a wireless network link in record time.”

Working within a densely wooded landscape under tight deadlines and high winds, engineers from both companies successfully mounted a Cambium Networks PTP 650 wireless backhaul link on a wooden pole 45 feet above the ground. This was an ideal solution because of the technology’s flexibility and ease of deployment in environments that are not traditionally wireline-friendly.

On the other end of the wireless path, Frontier engineers established a non-penetrating roof mount at their operations center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Ultimately, the PTP 650 network link extended nearly 10 miles, piercing tall trees and other terrain obstacles to deliver access at a consistent throughput of 60 Mbps. This was an exponentially higher speed than what the city had initially requested in order to connect the Mobile Command Center.

“In terms of time, cost and resource effectiveness, it didn’t make sense to dig a trench for one unique event,” said Bruce Collins, product manager at Cambium Networks. “The wireless link was rapidly and easily deployed, and provided superior performance compared to the copper they originally requested – all at a substantially lower cost.”

Cambium Networks and Frontier provided the units and service to the city of New Haven at no charge.

“At Cambium Networks, we’re a little bit country, so we were thrilled when Frontier called us about this opportunity,” added Collins. “We’re glad that we got the chance to connect this rural, one-of-a-kind concert and give on-site personnel the wireless access they needed to keep everyone safe.”
