News release from the Fort Wayne Police Department:

Critical Injury Shooting Investigation, 700 block of Guildford Avenue

Date: Monday, October 19, 2015

Time: 6:05 a.m.

Location: 700 block of Guildford Avenue

Details:

At approximately 6:05 a.m. Fort Wayne police responded to the report of a shooting in the 700 block of Guildford Avenue. Once on scene officers entered an upstairs apartment where they found a 19-year old male suffering from multiple gunshots wounds. He was transported from the scene to a local hospital where he was determined to be in critical condition.

Detectives have determined that two male white suspects forced their way into the apartment both were said to be armed. Three occupants of the apartment attempted to barricade themselves in an interior room but at least one suspect fired a shotgun blast through a closed door almost striking a male who was holding the door shut. That male had armed himself and when the suspects entered the room he shot several rounds hitting one of the suspects. The second suspect then fled the scene and is still at large. All three adult occupants of the apartment escaped injury. It does appear that the motive was a home invasion robbery though no loss was reported. A shotgun was recovered at the scene which was said to have been used by one of the suspects to arm himself.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
