News release from Hear Care:

4th Wine & Stein benefit set for October 9th
Changing the story of hearing loss

(October 6, 2015) – In celebration of its fourth year in non-profit work in Northeast Indiana, HearCare Connection will present its annual Wine & Stein benefit on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) at Sweetwater Sound in Fort Wayne.

The theme of the evening is “Hollywood – Changing the Story of Hearing Loss,” which is in support of the work HearCare Connection is doing in Fort Wayne. Highlights of the event include wine and beer tastings from local vendors, unique and delicious food, live entertainment from singer/guitarist Adam Strack, and a Silent / Live Auction with more than 140 incredible items. Some of the items include a well-appointed Genesis gas grill, an all-expense-paid trip to Guatemala with the Hearing the Call Missions team, a 65-inch Samsung UHD 4-K Curved Display TV, various Cabernets and other fine wines, tickets to the Dr. Phil Show, a signed Whoopi Goldberg book, 4 VIP tickets to the Wheel of Fortune Show, and much more.

Donations of the company’s biggest benefit will enable HearCare Connection to help under-served and under-insured children and adults with hearing loss who might not be able to afford such assistance on their own but through the generosity of others can do so.

Want to be a sponsor, a donor or volunteer? There’s still time; just give HearCare Connection a call at 260-602-3276 or email at Hear@HearCareConnection.org.

“Our fundraiser features the work our community has been engaging in these few short years,” said Anna Bogdon, Executive Director of HearCare Connection. “The stories and successes we have seen have been because of the community that has surrounded us with their time, talents and treasures. We are grateful to Fort Wayne and to the individuals, corporations and foundations that have stood by us so that we could provide the Gift of Hearing in Northeast Indiana.”

As a non-profit, It is important to remember that HCC does not give hearing devices away free, said Bogdon.

“We have established a Circle of Giving model into our patient care that puts our mission into action,” said Bogdon. “We offer free hearing screenings for general prevention and awareness for the community but we do not offer full audiology services or hearing aids for free. We reduce our fees and then utilize a sliding scale fee system to further reduce costs for those with even lower income than others which makes our hearing devices and services affordable for everyone. Patients who qualify financially and are in need of hearing aids sign a VOLUNTEER COMITTMENT form to give back their time and talents to others. They commit to completing a specified number of service hours within their community for other public agencies, nonprofit organizations, churches, or schools as a way to “give back” to the community that is providing them with the Gift of Hearing.

“Christine Miller, a patient of HearCare Connection, is a first-time hearing aid wearer, and has done great work in her volunteer job at the Woodburn library, and has also brought other patients to our clinic.”

Miller, a Woodburn resident and mother of 3 children, could not say enough about the office and what it had done for her.

“HearCare Connection has given me the gift of hearing back,” said Miller, who has a loss in only her left ear as a result of a virus 10 years ago. “My hearing aid enables me to enjoy music and singing again. It allows me to enjoy the everyday sounds of the world around me and has taught me never to take anything for granted!”
