Timeless musical is part of the University of Saint Francis’ 125th anniversary celebration.

(October 1, 2015) — The University of Saint Francis School of Creative Arts is presenting the rock opera, “Jesus Christ Superstar,” over two weekends in November as part of the university’s 125th anniversary celebration. The cast for the production has been announced by director Brad Beauchamp and includes a combination of local actors, USF students and high school students.

Jake Wilhelm will portray Jesus, and this will be Wilhelm’s second time playing the role in a USF production, as he filled the title role in 2011. Ennis L. Brown, Jr. is Judas, following up his stint as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in February’s production of “The Mountaintop” at USF.

Clare Ramel is portraying Mary, Ross Ehle is Peter, Travis J. Grams is Simon the Zealot and Stuart Hepler is Pilate.

With lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the musical features the central character of Jesus as a social and political rebel. Critics have said the show “illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart.”
