David C. Van Gilder honored with Bar Association’s Niemann Citation

(September 28, 2015) – David C. Van Gilder, owner at Van Gilder & Trzynka P.C., was awarded the Niemann Citation for Excellence and Professionalism on Tuesday, September 29, by the Allen County Bar Association at its annual meeting.

The Niemann Citation was established in 2004 to honor the memory of attorney Scott T. Niemann. The purpose of the Citation is to recognize ACBA members who, like Scott, exemplify professionalism and excellence in the practice of law as reflected in distinguished legal work, professionalism, public service and/or leadership.

Van Gilder is one of the founding organizers of the Volunteer Lawyer Program of Northeast Indiana and has served on its board since 2001. Together with Yvette Gaff Kleven, he received the Randall T. Shepard Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Publico 2013. He serves on the boards of the Hoosier Environmental Council, Fort Wayne Trails, ARCH, and is on the faculty at University of Saint Francis and IPFW. He was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Botswana from 1986 to 1988 with his wife, Faith. He also plays drums in the Fort Wayne Scottish Pipes and Drums.

Previous winners of the Niemann Citation include: Scott Niemann, Hon. William C. Lee, Kathleen Anderson, John Brandt, Edward Beck, J. Frank Kimbrough, Martin Fletcher, Robert Walters, Sherrill Colvin, C. Erik Chickedantz and Thomas Herr.
