Barricaded Subject, 900 block of Lake Avenue

Fort Wayne police responded to an address in the 900 block of Lake Avenue this morning to serve an emergency detention order on an individual. When officers approached and knocked the individual opened his door but quickly closed it on officers and retreated back into his apartment. Officers did observe what they believed to be the possibility of the apartment being boobe-trapped and immediately backed out. At 12:54 p.m. our EOD, EST and CRT teams were summoned to the location and a three block area around the scene was closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
EST members were able to convince the individual to exit his apartment and placed him into custody without incident approximately one hour and ten minutes into the ordeal. After he was transported to a local hospital for evaluation our EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) team members sent their robotic unit into the apartment and were able to determine it to be free of any boobe-traps. The individual did have monofilament string strung in an effort to make it appear the apartment was boob-trapped.
