Wine Trail of Indiana’s Northeast Wins Numerous Medals in the Indy International Wine Competition

West Lafayette, IN (September 23, 2015) – Nearly 2,100 wines traveled to West Lafayette for one of the nation’s largest wine competitions, the Indy International Wine Competition, July 29-31, 2015 at Purdue University.

Wines from 40 states and 12 countries as far away as France, Australia, Spain and Greece were judged on appearance, aroma, taste, and aftertaste by 42 international judges.

Six of the seven wineries of the Wineries of Indiana’s Northeast Wine Trail entered the 2015 competition. The wineries collectively won 10 double gold, 12 gold, 34 silver and 23 bronze medals. The wineries also won four Best of Class awards, indicating the wine was the best of all the wines of that varietal entered.

Country Heritage Winery, LaOtto, received the Indiana Farm Winery of the Year trophy, given to the winningest winery that produces less than 50,000 gallons of wine in a calendar year.

“We’re creating a destination region in our area of Indiana, and people are taking notice,” said Shane Christ, president of the Wineries of Indiana’s Northeast Trail and winemaker at Satek Winery. “With 7 founding members, our wine trail celebrates diverse wines with a deliberate focus on quality. By nature, we are spread across our northeastern region, where people can take time and learn about our culture. The trail members are a close group, and collectively, we’re getting noticed by both top wine experts, and new wine drinkers alike.”

“Our wine trail is essentially at the cross roads of the whole country, and travelers find it refreshing to find wines with such distinctive character and attitude. Plus, awards are piling up, driving our growth and consumer interest.”
