News release from the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation:

Great Tree Canopy Comeback: Volunteers Needed
Saturday, October 24, 10 am – noon

(September 23, 2015) — On Saturday, October 24th, Friends of the Parks of Allen County invites citizens to partner with area parks departments, businesses, neighborhoods, and community volunteers to plant new trees in our parks and public spaces during the Great Tree Canopy Comeback.

Volunteers of all ages are critical to the success of the event and are encouraged to sign up and help restore the tree canopy. More than 250 trees will be planted in the following parks this year: Franke, Johnny Appleseed, Lakeside, Memorial, Fox Island and Werling.

Volunteers are asked to register in advance by emailing GTCC2015FW@Outlook.com. T-shirts will be handed out to volunteers who pre-register, while supply lasts.

BACKGROUND: Created in 2002, the Great Tree Canopy Comeback is our community tree planting day organized by volunteers with Friends of the Parks and area parks departments to combat this critical loss of trees.
