News release from the Allen Superior Court:

Governor appoints Judge Wendy Davis to state drug task force

(September 11, 2015) – Indiana Governor Mike Pence has appointed Allen Superior Court Judge Wendy W. Davis to the Governor’s Task Force on Drug Enforcement, Treatment, and Prevention.

Announced by Governor Pence on Sept. 1, the task force is designed to bring together experts from across the state and from a variety of fields to gauge the state of the drug crisis in Indiana. The Task Force will assess Indiana’s existing resources in the areas of enforcement, treatment and prevention and provide recommendations for improvement.

“Substance abuse devastates lives, plain and simple,” Judge Davis said. “It not only devastates those who use, it devastates their families and friends as well. Nowhere is that clearer than in the Courts, where we see the destruction wrought by drug abuse every day. I look forward to helping Indiana combat and someday end this scourge.”

Judge Davis has worked toward reducing the impact of substance abuse in Allen County through implementation of the HOPE probation program. HOPE helps those with drug and alcohol addictions seek treatment as an alternative to incarceration.

The Governor’s task force will meet in September, October and November.
