21st Omnibus Lecture Series Focuses on National Security, the Environment, and Politics
(August 31, 2015) — The 21st season of the Omnibus Lecture Series at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) presents three memorable evenings with engaging and well-known speakers.
This year’s lineup of speakers includes:
Eric Olson, retired four-star Admiral and Navy SEAL
“The World at Night”

Tickets available starting September 14Eric Olson is a retired four-star Admiral, Navy SEAL, and former commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). He served his country for more than 38 years. Often described as one of the greatest military leaders of the last century, Olson’s leadership is credited for accomplishing some of the most notable military operations of the past decade.
Olson was the first Navy SEAL to be appointed to three-star and four-star rank, in addition to being the first naval officer selected to command all U.S. special operations forces. Olson now serves on corporate and nonprofit organization boards, teaches a graduate course at Columbia University, and advises on national security, leadership, and team building.
Bill McKibben, environmental activist and author
“The Climate Fight Reaches its Crucial Stage”

Tickets available starting October 12Bill McKibben is one of America’s most prominent environmental activists and authors. He is also a founder of https://350.org/, the first global grassroots initiative to combat climate change.
As the author of a dozen books, including multiple bestsellers, McKibben is credited for shaping public perception and understanding of climate change, alternative forms of energy, and the need for localized, sustainable economies. His works include The End of Nature, typically regarded as the first book on climate change written for a general audience, and his most recent, Oil and Honey.
A former staff writer for The New Yorker, McKibben has also been featured in The New York Times, National Geographic, and Rolling Stone.
James Carville and Mary Matalin
“All’s Fair: Love, War, and Politics”

Tickets available starting February 29One of American’s most beloved political couples—James Carville and Mary Matalin—will take the stage this spring to discuss today’s most important political issues.
Carville’s reputation for leading overlooked campaigns to victory began in 1986, culminating with William Jefferson Clinton’s election in 1992. Recently, Carville has turned his expertise to global politics, focusing on campaigns around the world.
Carville is a best-selling author, actor, producer, talk show host, and restaurateur. His many publications include All’s Fair: Love, War, and Running for President (co-written with Matalin) and a New York Times bestseller, It’s the Middle Class, Stupid! He is a columnist for The Hill and appears regularly on news networks worldwide.
Matalin is a celebrated conservative political voice. She worked under President Ronald Reagan and served as George H.W. Bush’s campaign director, assistant to George W. Bush, and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney.
Matalin is a frequent commentator on news networks ABC, CNN, MSNBC, and FOX News Network. She hosted the popular Mary Matalin Show on CBS Talk Radio Network, and now co-hosts the nationally syndicated radio program Both Sides Now. She has authored many publications, including the bestselling Letters to My Daughter.
Together, Carville and Matalin bring 60+ years of political experience to the Omnibus Lecture Series.

The Omnibus Lecture Series is dedicated to presenting diverse ideas through respected speakers to northeast Indiana. The Omnibus Lecture Series has been supported by the English Bonter Mitchell Foundation since 1995 and is also supported by the Dr. Louis and Anne B. Schneider Foundation. The 2015-16 season media sponsors are WANE-TV NewsChannel 15, 89.1 WBOI NPR news and diverse music, and KPC Media.Free tickets are required for all Omnibus Lectures. Tickets will be available three weeks prior to each event and may be obtained:
- IN PERSON at the Larson Ticket Office in the Gates Athletics Center, 12:30-6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
- ONLINE through the box office website (with a $1 convenience fee to cover order processing costs)
- DAY OF EVENT in the Rhinehart Music Center one hour before the lecture (if seats are still available)
Each lecture takes place in The John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center’s 1,600-seat Auer Performance Hall on the IPFW campus. Doors open one hour before the each lecture. Campus parking is free and convenient. The 1,000-space Parking Garage 3 is located in the Fine Arts Plaza to serve Omnibus audiences. Patrons should arrive early to allow plenty of time for traffic and parking, as the series and other events on campus may draw large crowds.
