News release from the Allen County SPCA:

Allen County SPCA Selected as Newest Participant in PetSmart Charities™ Rescue Waggin® Program

(August 28, 2015) – PetSmart Charities has selected the Allen County SPCA in Fort Wayne, IN, as the newest destination shelter in the Rescue Waggin’ program.

PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin’ program is a national transport program that networks shelters together to transport homeless dogs and puppies from communities with high pet populations and very few potential adopters to animal shelters, like the Allen County SPCA, where there are exceptional adoption programs in place and more adoption space for dogs and puppies in need of new homes.

“Allen County SPCA has the right combination of spay and neuter resources in their community and an exceptional adoption program, enabling them to find homes quickly for pets,” said Julie White, senior director, PetSmart Charities.

Currently, 83 animal shelters participate in the Rescue Waggin’ program, either as a source shelter, where the puppies and dogs originate from or as a destination shelter, the final location where they have the best opportunity for finding their forever homes.

The Allen County SPCA is one of only 28 animal shelters across the nation selected to participate as a destination shelter in the Rescue Waggin’ program. The have recently begun accepting transports of dogs and puppies from other Rescue Waggin’ program participants.

“We’re very excited to join this program,” says Jessica Henry, Executive Director for Allen County SPCA, “We set high standards here and are delighted to be in a position to help save more lives. Our priority is always the pets in our community, so no dogs in our shelter or community will ever be displaced to make room for transported dogs.”

The next Recue Waggin’ transport is scheduled to arrive at the Allen County SPCA the afternoon of Tuesday, September 1 (delivery time TBD Monday, August 31).

Since 2004, more than 80,000 dogs and puppies have been saved through the Rescue Waggin’ program. To learn more about the Rescue Waggin’ program, as well as other programs that PetSmart Charities supports and creates, visit https://petsmartcharities.org/.
