Game recap from the TinCaps:

Thomas Dorminy dominates Captains, home win streak continues

(August 27, 2015) – Behind Thomas Dorminy’s seven scoreless innings, the TinCaps shut out the Lake County Captains, 2-0. Fort Wayne extended its home winning streak to 17 on Thursday night, and can now clinch a playoff berth with a victory on Friday.

Another sellout crowd – the 21st of the season – was on display at Parkview Field with 7,601 in attendance.

Dorminy’s (W, 11-7) curveball fooled countless Lake County (29-30, 65-62) hitters. The lefty from Lutz, Florida, struck out a career-high seven and scattered just four hits. He picked up his 11th win of the season – tying his teammate, Ernesto Montas, for fifth in the Midwest League. In 12 second half starts, Dorminy owns a scintillating 1.59 ERA.

Trae Santos kicked off the second inning with a triple down the right-field line off of Captains starter Sean Brady (L, 7-11). Two batters later, Edwin Moreno singled to plate Santos and give the home team a 1-0 edge. Moreno extended his hit streak to season-high 11.

Fort Wayne (40-19, 72-55) added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Ruddy Giron socked a double and scored when Franmil Reyes bashed a two-bagger of his own off the top of the left-field wall.

Nick Monroe tossed a scoreless eighth and Yimmi Brasoban (S, 10) closed the door in the ninth inning – striking out the side in order.

The TinCaps remain in first place in the second half Eastern Division standings. Their lead over the West Michigan Whitecaps stays at four games with 11 to play in the regular season.

Manager Francisco Morales’ team can win its 10th consecutive series with another victory over the Captains on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Pete Kelich (2-1, 4.50) starts for Fort Wayne and faces Lake County scheduled starter Justus Sheffield (8-4, 3.66) at Parkview Field.

You can watch the action on Comcast Network 81 starting at 7:00 p.m. or listen in on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app starting at 6:45 p.m.
