News release from INDOT:
Lane Restrictions Planned for U.S. 27 Northbound Bridge Over St. Mary’s River Beginning This Week
Bridge painting to restrict waterway and lanes above from East Superior Street to Baltes Avenue(August 25, 2015) – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that bridge painting began on the U.S. 27 northbound bridge over the St. Mary’s River this week. Motorists can expect alternating lane restrictions between East Superior Street and Baltes Avenue throughout the duration of the project.
Additionally, boaters are encouraged to use caution when nearing the bridge due to cables being stretched across the river and tarps being hung from the bridge. INDOT urges all boaters to follow all posted signs, as waterway restrictions may be needed.
INDOT reminds drivers and boaters to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through an active construction zone.
This project is being undertaken in conjunction with bridge painting on S.R. 101 in DeKalb County. Work on the combined project is scheduled to be completed in late October. The contract was awarded to Civil Coatings & Construction, Inc., for $489,000.
