GFW Fellows Program Named 2015 Chamber Innovator of the Year
(August 17, 2015) – Six months after kicking off GFW Fellows, the Greater Fort Wayne (GFW) Inc. program has been named 2015 Chamber Innovator of the Year.
The ChamberMaster competition received 80 entries from a wide array of organizations of all sizes, from across the U.S. and Canada. The entries were judged on creativity, community impact and value to the Chamber.
“We are excited that GFW Fellows is being recognized for its innovation,” said Justin Clupper, program director of Leadership & Community Engagement. “We know the GFW Fellows program is about more than just internships, it is about creating an attachment to Fort Wayne through a variety social experiences, community service projects and personal development training.”
As the first place winner, a grand prize of $1500 will be awarded to GFW Inc. In addition, the top 5 innovators will be featured in the 2015 Edition of Chamber of Inspiration, an e-book that showcases the successes of inventive and forward-thinking organizations.
GFW Fellows is a yearlong investor program that was created to attract, retain and attach talent to the community. An inaugural group of 15 sophomore, junior and senior college students were selected through a competitive application and interview process. GFW Fellows attended monthly personal development workshops that focused on soft skill development before beginning a twelve-week paid summer internship in May with a host employer. The internship included housing and social activities to keep the Fellows engaged with the area. The project-based internship experience was designed to help fill entry-level talent pipelines for GFW Inc. investors that may result in permanent job opportunities for the Fellows upon graduation.
