Edsall Avenue bridge closed to vehicle traffic

News release from the Allen County Highway Department:

Edsall Avenue bridge closed to vehicle traffic

(July 30, 2015) — The Allen County Highway Department announced today that the Edsall Avenue Bridge which crosses over railroad tracks between Reynolds Street and Pennsylvania Street has been closed to vehicle traffic until further notice.

The closing was recommended following an annual inspection of the bridge which took place this summer. A weight limit on the span was already in place.

Though vehicle traffic is prohibited, a six-foot wide walkway protected by a chain link fence will be available for pedestrians to cross the bridge.

Plans for the bridge’s future will be coordinated between the County Highway Department, the City of Fort Wayne and Norfolk Southern Railroad which owns the right-of-way.
