News Release from the TinCaps:

TinCaps beat Great Lakes Loons, weather

(July 13, 2015) – With a tornado watch in effect towards the end of the game, the TinCaps picked the perfect night for a 2-0 shutout win over the Great Lakes Loons at Parkview Field on Monday. Moments after the 2 hour, 24-minute game ended, pouring rain began to fall in Downtown Fort Wayne.

Ernesto Montas, Seth Lucio, Yimmi Brasoban, and Colby Blueberg teamed up for the team’s fifth shutout win of the season.

Fort Wayne (12-7, 44-43) scored a run in each of the first two innings against Grant Holmes (L, 4-2), and that proved to be enough. Left fielder Franchy Cordero hit a run-scoring single in the first. In the second, shortstop Ruddy Giron hit a sacrifice fly that made it 2-0.

Montas (W, 9-5) allowed only two baserunners over the first five innings. He ran into trouble in the sixth, though, and after two singles and a walk, exited with the bases loaded and no one out. That turned out to be fine for the TinCaps, as Lucio (H, 6) came in and struck out the Loons’ number three hitter, Kyle Garlick, and induced a 1-6-3 double-play grounder against the cleanup batter Justin Chigbogu.

Brasoban (H, 4) allowed only a hit in a quick inning. Then with lightning flashing and ominous clouds hanging over, Blueberg (S, 12) pitched a perfect ninth.

With the split of the four-game series, the TinCaps are 7-0-2 over their last nine series at home since the end of May.

Following a day off Tuesday, Fort Wayne welcomes the Lake County Captains (Indians) to Parkview Field on Wednesday night at 7:05. Left-hander Thomas Dorminy (6-6, 4.18) is set to start against southpaw Justus Sheffield (7-2, 4.23). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app, and seen on Comcast Network 81.
