News release from the Fort Wayne Police Department:

Critical Injury Accident, West Dupont Road and Oak Trail Road

Date: 07/11/2015

Time: 6:03 a.m.

Location: West Dupont Road and Oak Trail Road

Victim: Adult Male

On Saturday, July 11, 2015, at 0603hrs, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the area of W. Dupont Rd. and Oak Trail Rd. on a report of an injury accident involving a moped. Officers arrived and located an adult male in critical condition. Officers used their department issued AED to deliver a shock to the male, and performed CPR until paramedics arrived, who transported the male to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

At this time it appears the moped was eastbound on W. Dupont Rd., and for an undetermined reason, left the south side of the roadway, and crashed into the grass just west of this intersection. It is currently being investigated whether drugs, alcohol, or a medical condition contributed to this accident, or if the rider simply lost control. It is too early to tell at this point.

The victim was the sole rider of the moped. A helmet was found near the rider, but it is currently unknown if the rider was wearing it at the time of crash.

There is no further information to be released. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department’s FACT team.
