Game recap from the TinCaps:

TinCaps ReCap: Late rally defeats Dayton Dragons

(July 3, 2015) DAYTON, Ohio – The TinCaps came from behind to defeat the Dayton Dragons, 6-2, at Fifth Third Field on Thursday night. Down 2-0, Fort Wayne scored once in the sixth, one more in the eighth to tie, and four in the ninth to go on top.

The TinCaps are 9-3 over their last 12 games and only have allowed more than three runs in a game once during the stretch.

Catcher Jose Ruiz hit what proved to be a game-winning double off left-handed reliever Brennan Bernardino (L, 1-1) with one out in the top of the ninth to score third baseman Luis Tejada, who had walked and reached second base on a wild pitch.

Fort Wayne (5-3, 37-39) tacked on three more runs after righty Brian Hunter replaced Bernardino. Second baseman Mitch Morales hit an infield single, advancing Ruiz to third. Then after center fielder Michael Gettys walked to load the bases, a wild pitch moved everyone up a base, including Ruiz to make it 4-2. Left fielder Nick Torres singled in Morales and Gettys to put the TinCaps ahead 6-2.

The All-Star Torres finished the night 3-for-5 with four runs batted in. He put the TinCaps on the board with a Gettys-scoring double – his Midwest League-leading 26th this year. Later, he tied the game with a single following a Gettys double.

Chris Huffman allowed a pair of first-inning runs but held Dayton (4-4, 43-35) scoreless for the next four. T.J. Weir put up zeroes in the sixth and seventh, while Yimmi Brasoban (W, 2-2) finished the final two frames.

Brasoban, who just turned 21 last week, hasn’t allowed a run since May 19. His ERA in 35 1/3 innings as a reliever this season is 1.02.

Fort Wayne pitchers received plenty of support from the defense behind them throughout the night. Gettys made a diving catch in left-center field. First baseman Trae Santos made a sprawling stop on a ball down the line to prevent a run. Right fielder Franmil Reyes threw a runner out at the plate. Dayton also had a runner thrown out between third and the plate.

The TinCaps and Dragons play the second and final game of their series in Dayton on Friday night at 7:00. Righty Ernesto Montas (6-5, 3.65) is scheduled to start for Fort Wayne against lefty Junior Morillo (1-2, 6.49). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app.
