TekVenture announces open house to celebrate completion of phase II

News release from TekVenture:

TekVenture Announces Open House to Celebrate Completion of Phase II!

(July 2, 2015) – TekVenture invites you to visit 1800 Broadway – 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Saturday, July 11 as we open Phase II of Fort Wayne’s only member-based public art and technology lab. Though instead of say workout equipment, common interests of our members include fellowship, learning, and tools for making art, technology, and other projects.

Many joined TekVenture in March for International Pi Day as we offered a glimpse of what was to come at an open house to celebrate completion of Phase I. Guests filtered throughout the newly renovated Rapid Prototyping Center (RPC) learning about vacuum forming, injection molding, electronics and other tools and technologies used for product prototyping. They also got to see the condition of the building when we arrived, where we where in the build out at the time, and our vision for the future.

The RPC has tools for designing and fabricating models of all kinds. It has benches for soldering and designing projects; computers for creating files to be sent to machines for production; 3D scanning/printing; sewing; and other cleaner, quieter tasks.

Since that time our volunteers have continued to provide public workshops, worked hard downsizing items found in the space, built out the labs, staged tools, and prepared for members to begin making.

The real fun begins with Phase II where the loud, messy stuff will happen. We invite you for an open house to celebrate with like-minded people as the Machining Center, Auto Bay, Wood Shop and Electronics/Robotics labs are soon to go live.

Watch for more about workshops and users groups at www.TekVenture.org (new website coming soon) and find us on Facebook and Twitter @ TekVenture.

Your Chance to Purchase Found Objects

Those who’ve missed fun things we’ve unearthed in our urban archaeological dig now have another chance to purchase treasures.

Stop by Saturday, July 11, 10 am – 4 pm to see all the things you might just have to take home. Consider it a twofer as Three Rivers Festival Antiques in the Park is just across the street.

Never Got Scanned for that 3D Selfie?

As a fundraiser and to carry on the celebration of the TekVenture Rapid Prototyping Center opening on International Pi Day, we will capture your image with a 3 dimensional (3D) scanner for a $25 donation. After 265 scans are sold, 9 scans will be randomly selected to 3D print. All 9 Physical Portraits (3D Selfies) will be delivered within 17 days after the last scan is sold.

3.14/15 (RPC opens), 9 (3D scans printed), 265 (3D scans sold), 17 (3+5+9) days to delivery = Pi.

Can’t wait to see if you’re 1 of the 9 selected for 3D printing? Schedule an appointment at TekVenture and for an additional $25, you can walk away with a 3D Selfie of you! To schedule an appointment, email info@TekVenture.org. Proceeds will help pay to build out the labs and purchase additional tools.

TekVenture is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit, community-driven organization. If interested in learning more, becoming a member, volunteering, or donating in some way, visit TekVenture.org or contact us at info@TekVenture.org.
