TinCaps ReCap: Bats Silent in One-Run Loss

MIDLAND, Mich. (June 28, 2015) – Fort Wayne and Great lakes played their third straight one-run ballgame on Sunday, but the TinCaps came out on the losing end, falling 2-1. It was the sixth one-run game the two teams have played in nine total meetings this season.

Starter Ernesto Montas (L, 6-5) only yielded two runs over six innings, but it was one run too many. Brian Wolfe drove one in off the Dominican right-hander in the second frame. In the sixth, it was Matt Beaty who plated a run. The Loons led, 2-0.

After Great Lakes (2-2, 40-32) starter Grant Holmes (W, 4-0) was removed after six innings, the visitors finally got on the scoreboard against reliever J.D. Underwood. Franchy Cordero singled – one of his two hits on Sunday – and then went to third base after Trae Santos knocked one out to the right side of the diamond. The next batter, Luis Tejada, singled and drove in Cordero to cut the deficit in half.

Fort Wayne (2-2, 34-38) went down quietly, though, in the eighth and ninth innings. In 40 total innings during the four-game series, all but two frames featured a tie score or either team leading by just one run.

The TinCaps received more stellar pitching from the bullpen. T.J. Weir tossed two shutout innings. Over the last eight games, Fort Wayne relievers have a diminutive 0.86 ERA.

Fort Wayne is home on Monday against Bowling Green. The pitching probables are Thomas Dorminy (5-5, 4.41) for the TinCaps and Henry Centeno (4-4, 4.81) for the Hot Rods.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Watch the action on Comcast Network 81 starting at 7:00 p.m. or listen in on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app starting at 6:45 p.m.
