News release from Indiana Michigan Power:
I&M storm update
(June 27, 2015) – This morning’s wind storm – with gusts of up to 66 mph – blew numerous branches and limbs into electric lines and damaged poles. As of noon, about 32,000 Indiana Michigan Power customers in northeast Indiana were without power, including about 30,500 in the Fort Wayne area, about 1,500 in the Avilla area and about 100 in the Decatur area.
I&M is marshalling resources and dispatching crews to assess the outages and restore power. Out-of-state crews are traveling to Fort Wayne to work alongside I&M crews to restore power as soon as safely possible.
Due to the widespread nature of the outages – more than 600 separate outages have been reported – an estimated time of restoration has not yet been determined. Some customers will likely be without power overnight, and the full restoration may take several days.
Customers can be notified of restoration times in the future by signing up for I&M On the Go Mobile Alerts at www.indianamichiganpower.com.
Customers who use generators are reminded to always read and follow the manufacturer’s operating instructions. Never use a generator inside your home, garage, crawl space or other enclosed areas. Only use your generator outdoors, away from open windows, vents, or doors.
