Game recap from the TinCaps:

Luis Tejada tallies two hits in debut

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (June 18, 2015) – Fort Wayne lost its second in a row against the West Michigan Whitecaps, 5-2, on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. Luis Tejada — in his 2015 debut for the TinCaps — tallied two hits, including an RBI double.

On a damp evening, Fort Wayne (28-36) fell behind 4-0 after West Michigan scored twice in the second inning and two more times in the fourth.

The TinCaps cut their deficit in half with a two-run fifth against Whitecaps starter Ross Seaton (W, 6-3). Center fielder Michael Gettys led off with a hard-hit single to left field. Tejada followed with a double the same way to score Gettys. Catcher Miguel Del Castillo followed with a bunt base-hit that advanced Tejada to third base. Following two strikeouts, right fielder Nick Torres hit a double down the left-field line to bring home Tejada and move Del Castillo to third. First baseman Trae Santos followed and hit a 3-0 pitch to the wall in left field. West Michigan’s Rashad Brown made a highlight-reel catch as he crashed into the fence to prevent Fort Wayne from tying the game.

Tejada, who played for the TinCaps in 2013 and 2014, joined the team on Monday. He played third base for the first time in his career on Wednesday.

After starter Thomas Dorminy (L, 5-5) went the first 3 2/3 innings, left-handed reliever Kyle McGrath worked two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Seth Lucio followed with 1 1/3 perfect frames as he struck two batters out and fielded two comebackers with his bare hand. Brandon Fry entered for the eighth inning and allowed a run on a wild pitch with two outs that made it 5-2.

Neither side was opportunistic on Wednesday. While the Whitecaps went 1-for-17 with runners in scoring position and left nine on base, Fort Wayne went 2-for-10 in those situations and left eight on base. West Michigan’s fourth run was unearned.

Joe Jimenez (S, 5) pitched a perfect ninth inning for the save.

The TinCaps and Whitecaps finish their three-game series on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Fort Wayne is scheduled to start Chris Huffman (2-3, 3.34) against Artie Lewicki (0-1, 5.79) in a pairing of righties. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app.
