Shubitha Kever, Director of IPFW TRIO, Elected President-Elect for Statewide Indiana TRIO Programs
(June 15, 2015) — Shubitha Kever, director of TRIO Student Support Services at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), is the new president-elect for the statewide Indiana TRIO professional organization.
Kever will serve as president-elect starting in November 2015 for a term of one year, then she will assume the role of president of the Indiana TRIO professional organization for the 2016-17 year.
“I’m excited to serve in this role and help advance the mission of TRIO programs by advocating for first-generation students on a state and national level,” said Kever. “IPFW is relatively new to TRIO programs, being around for the past 10 years, but through involvement like this we are showing IPFW TRIO is ready and willing to take the lead on a state and national level to help advance the mission of TRIO programs and advocate for students.”
Indiana TRIO advocates on behalf of first generation, low income, and students with disabilities who participate in Indiana TRIO programs.
The purpose of the Indiana chapter is to bring together into a work and study community those administrators, counselors, advisers, and teachers who have an active interest in or who are professionally involved in broadening accessibility to and assuring success in formal post-secondary education.
TRIO projects have helped countless participants obtain a post-secondary degree since 1964. Currently across the state of Indiana, 37 TRIO projects are bringing approximately $11 million in federal funding that serve over 11,400 Hoosiers. TRIO college graduates are working in all sectors across the nation: government, healthcare, education, business, social service, law, science, and technology.
