News release from the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir:

Children’s Choir Gets International Exposure

(June 10, 2015) – The Fort Wayne Children’s Choir (FWCC) is pleased to announce its 2015-16 season will finish with a Tour to Budapest, Hungary as well as Vienna and Salzburg, Austria.

The children’s choir represents the greater Fort Wayne community on a national tour every year and has taken several international tours in the past. This marks the first time the Choir will be touring this part of the globe and represents an exciting connection with the organization’s educational philosophy. The Kodály philosophy is a method of teaching music literacy and it was originated by Zoltan Kodály in Hungary. This methodology uses the solfege system (do, re, mi, etc.) to teach a student to read music just like they would read words from a book.

The FWCC will have the opportunity to interact with other children from Hungarian children’s choirs in addition to numerous performances in these historic cities. The FWCC will have the opportunity to tour the Mirabell Gardens, featured in The Sound of Music, take a river boat cruise down the Danube River, and sing in Mozart’s birthplace.

The Concert Choir is the premier ensemble of the FWCC, representing the organization and the greater Fort Wayne community regionally, nationally, and abroad. The group is composed of 48 students from 5th-8th grade and can be heard singing with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic in the Holiday Pops, Heartland Sings!, and the Bach Collegium. Recently, the Concert Choir performed with the American Boychoir (Princeton, NJ) as part of Trinity English Lutheran Church’s concert series.

The Youth Chorale is a high-caliber ensemble of high school students who are part of the larger FWCC program. This 45-member ensemble meets just once a week to achieve incredible musical results. Students represent several area high schools and home school organizations. The Youth Chorale also has performed with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, IPFW, and other area high school choral groups in the FWCC’s choral festival.

The mission of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir is to provide a choral program exemplifying artistic and educational excellence for children from diverse backgrounds. The Fort Wayne Children’s Choir contributes to the community’s cultural environment by providing opportunities to experience the unique beauty of professionally trained young voices. With over 230 students annually, the FWCC is proud to represent 77 different schools in addition to home school groups.
